In brief

In line with our philosophy of using art to affect social change, the gallery will take a grassroots approach to art and wholeness; creativity goes beyond materialism, it is an expression of imagination and a powerful vehicle for social change. The Birmingham Contemporary Art Gallery is privately run by husband and wife team, Albert and Sarah Wallace

The Birmingham Contemporary Art Gallery - details

The Birmingham Contemporary Art Gallery is so much more than just an art gallery. Our vision is to challenge the barriers and perceptions in our society that can sometimes prevent people with tremendous creative ability from realising their potential and getting their work seen and heard, whether it’s as a result of education, socio economic reasons, physical or mental health or not having the right contacts to access available opportunities.

We provide a growing platform for especially emerging as well as established local artists, that reflects the diversity within our community. We want to promote creativity and create a social forum for continued dialogue on issues that have prevented black and ethnic minority artists from being represented.

The gallery takes a grassroots approach to engaging with the community through art and wellbeing programmes, where we have a dedicated space for people or groups to engage in space based holistic experience of music, art and other creative activities.

The public is welcome to visit and experience the gallery, view, lease or buy artwork and relax and unwind in our lounge area, while ambient music plays in the background. We have created a space that is inclusive and welcoming to inspire and encourage, not only art enthusiasts and collectors, but also those people who wouldn’t ordinarily visit a gallery.

Come and see us on your next visit to the city centre. Your support will create opportunities and financial assistance for our artists and also help to support some of our planned community-based initiatives.

To find The BCAG, it's up the steps to the left of Legoland Discovery Centre at Utilita Arena Birmingham. Not far from the Lego Giraffe.
