Birmingham - A sustainable city

Birmingham is a city committed to providing a clean environment and protecting its natural environment through partnerships with business and community. Let us show you how.

Birmingham's vision of a sustainable city is re-inforced by the actions being taken to tackle climate change including its clean air zone strategy and the city's stated ambition to become net zero carbon by 2030.

In 2019, for the 8th year in a row, Birmingham scooped gold at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for a display highlighting the importance of action to tackle climate change. Sponsored by Veolia and working in partnership with Baroness Floella Benjamin, the garden focused on four key themes: air quality, water conservation, reducing waste and community involvement.

The City Council is committed to taking a leading role in the fight against climate cjhange.  It has committed to work with individuals, communities, businesses, partners, and others across the city and region to act now on the causes and impacts of the climate emergency.
