In brief

Grade II listed Murdoch and Pitman Chambers, an 1890s former hotel, is to be converted back into hotel usage with the delivery of a new 84,947K SF aparthotel scheme.

The complex project will create 156 bedrooms via an extensive 10-storey new build immediately to the rear of the Grade II listed building – set back and providing 128 bedrooms & 60,708K SF of floorspace.

With constraints including access to the site, the rear will be built utilising quicker and viable off-site Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) where necessary, alongside on-site construction to provide efficiency.

The prominent listed building, originally a hotel and fronting Corporation Street, will be preserved & refurbished to provide an additional 28 bedrooms & 23,239K SF of floorspace. This also includes the sensitive restoration of the ground floor with new shop fronts and doors.

Both buildings will be linked via the introduction of a glazed link to form an atrium between old and new.

To facilitate construction, a modern, lower rear wing that offers little in the way of contribution will be demolished to make way for the extension.
