MURDOCH AND PITMAN CHAMBERS
Grade II listed 1890s Murdoch and Pitman Chambers is to form a 156-bed aparthotel scheme, with a restaurant/bar, gym, and meeting rooms.
Having started its life as a hotel and vegetarian restaurant, the building is once said to have hosted Indian independence campaigner Mahatma Gandhi.
The asset will be refurbished and converted into 28-bedrooms, along with a new viability-boosting, set-back cuboid-esque 11-storey offering 128-bedrooms to the site's constrained rear (below), separated by a glazed link - the part-demo of a rear four-storey wing of the Pitman Building will be undertaken beforehand.

The heritage building will receive new and improved shopfronts, with window frames and terracotta sculpture and dry rot repairs. All modern fittings will be removed and all original features – chimneypieces, cornices, doors, etc. – reinstated.
