MURDOCH AND PITMAN CHAMBERS
Murdoch and Pitman Chambers, a Grade II*-listed building dating back to the 1890s, is to be refurbished and developed into a 156-bedroom, boutique four-star hotel.
The historic asset will be refurbished and converted into 28 bedrooms, with a viability-boosting set-back cuboid-esque 11-storey containing 128 bedrooms to the site’s constrained rear (below).
Once up and running, the new build and the heritage asset will be separated by a glazed link, with the building set to come complete with a gymnasium, meeting rooms and co-working facilities.
New and improved shopfronts will be made to the Corporation Street frontage, complete with new window frames, and terracotta sculpture and dry rot repairs. Within, all original features – chimneypieces, cornices, doors, etc. – will be reinstated.
