With wonderful gardens, stunning glasshouses, tropical rainforest and so much for people to enjoy, the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham is most definitely a City Gem!  Enjoy!

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens is located on Westbourne Road in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

 

History

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens opened to the public in 1832.  The gardens are Grade II listed and is the home to the Birmingham Botanical and Horticultural Society which was founded in 1829.

More about this Birmingham Gem

The gardens features four glasshouses, including tropical, subtropical, mediterranean and arid glasshouses. There is also an Alpine House and Butterfly House.

The main lawn has been used over the years for a variety of events, such as the Magical Lantern Festival and the Jurassic Kingdom or Ice Age events.

There is also a variety of bird species housed at the Botanical Gardens and you will almost certainly find a peacock roaming!

Events and activities at Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Birmingham Botanical Gardens is a wonderful venue for that special occasion such as a wedding, anniversary or birthday.  It continues to host some wonderful events througout the year, both inside and outside in the stunning gardens.

Here are a few examples. 

 

Magical Lantern Festival, Christmas Light Trail and Luminate at Birmingham Botanical Gardens

The Magical Lantern Festival has been held at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens twice, during Christmas 2016 and 2018.

During the Christmas of 2017, the Botanical Gardens held an alternative Night Light Trail called the Christmas Light Trail. 

During Christmas of 2022, Luminate was held at 8 amazing locations across the UK, including at the Botanical Gardens.

All these events were hugely popular family attractions.

Jurassic Kingdom and the Ice Age: Lost Kingdom at at Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Two other extremely popular events held at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens over the years were Jurassic Kingdom (May to June 2017) and Ice Age: The Lost Kingdom (April 2019).
