In brief
The red brick house at no 64 Hagley Road dates to 1795 and was built by Charles Surman Smith. It is the earliest surviving building of the Edgbaston development by the Calthorpe Estates. It has a Doric porch with thin colonnettes. A Grade II listed building since 1982. For many years occupied by the nightclub Spearmint Rhino. And surrounded by office blocks dating to the 1960s.
