BBC Birmingham - the relocation into the Typhoo Building

BBC Birmingham is to relocate from its Mailbox home into a custom-built 84,001K SF broadcast centre at Typhoo Factory by 2026.

The historic 1929-built building will be conserved and extended and will house several BBC editorial teams, including The Archers, BBC Newsbeat, BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio WM and Midlands Today.

It will also become one of Birmingham’s first net zero carbon in construction office buildings, which is on target to achieve a BREEAM ‘outstanding’ rating & an energy performance certificate (EPC) of ‘A’.

A new fluid public realm and square will be formulated, allowing for a new canalside quarter, with potential for cafes, bars and restaurant terraces as the masterplan evolves.

The wider Typhoo Wharf site (viewed in 'Masterplans') is set to deliver up to 800,000K SF of new residential, office, and hospitality space, over the next 5 to 10 years.
